Update on Exhale Sponsored Lee Henderson Racing

As blog followers will know Exhale sponsors various individuals in the UK helping them to pursue their goals. One of these is Lee Henderson who is the current Champion in the Ellough Park Open GP Heavyweight Champion which he has won for three consecutive years.

This summer Lee has been continuing to burn up the rubber as he competes in the DMAX Heavy Heats whic in July were held at Rye House Kart Circuit in Hertfordshire.

Lee tells us that it was a day of hard racing  which began with him starting in 17th (last) place in the first heat. Being at the back, when the lights went to green, Lee got full audible impact as the roar of the 2-stroke Rotax engines set off toward turn one where a few of the leadng karts became a little tangled.

By the end of lap one Lee had clawed his way up into 10th position, and then at the half way point another unfortunate driver spun out which put our boy up into 9th where he finished.

Starting the second heat in 6th in lap one Lee says he was 'caught napping' and slipped back 3 places to 9th. Rousing himself Lee managed to gain a position qhickly during lap 2 but this race turned out to be a battle with Lee holding onto 8th by just 0.15 of a second at the finish.

For the final round in heat 3, Lee began in 4th position and, with aspirations now of a top three finish  as the race got underway he made a great start, tucking in behind Tomasz Zaustowicz. A fabulous move! At the end of lap one they were in 1st and 2nd respectively.

Pushing hard, Zaustowicz managed to increase the gap between them so Lee was under pressure in front and behind. As he glanced back over his shoulder he could see how hard he was being chased down. Then, just as he came out of a very twisty section of track at the end of lap 7Lee received a bump on his left rear which forced him into a nasty spin taking him right off the track where he was unable to get back into the race until the rest of the field has past. He was absolutely fuming and finished the heat in 16th. This improved very slightly after penalties had been taken into account which placed Lee at 14th.

Now the final grids were displayed. Lee's starting position was 10th  very frustrating, the spin off costing him 5 places for the final. However he had to dust himself down and prepare mentally for this final. Taking up his positoin Lee made a great start, gaining two places in lap 1, getting into 6th by the end of lap 11.

A new battle commenced as Lee was passed by rival Jamie Pender. Attempting to take the position back, as he braked at a hairpin bend Lees kart slid out pushing Pender wide. To avoid a penalty, Lee let Pender back in but could find no way back and had to settle for 7th.

Not what he had hoped for on the day, Lee still pictures himself with a place on the podium later in the season.

Hoping that lady-luck will be on his side he now begins preparation for the DMAX Heats held at Sundown Park next month.
