Two New Studies on E Cigarettes Make Headlines

Electronic cigarettes are more popular than ever – and, they're being proven to help users stop smoking tobacco!

It wasn't too long ago that electronic cigarettes were simply a word of mouth phenomena and a person might hear about them only from a friend who had tried it. But today these little personal devices are poised to become even more popular than ever.

A new study shows us that when using an electronic cigarette (personal vaporiser - PV) a smoker can become tobacco-free without the exercise in futility that is trying to quit smoking. Stories such as this making the news will be of interest to anyone who enjoys a good vape and is keen to see its use accepted and embraced.

More Smokers in Hawaii Choose E Cigarettes

A recent news report in Hawaii News Now spoke of a recent study which was carried out in Hawaii that has shown that almost half of young adults between the ages of 18 to 35 have tried electronic cigarettes. In fact it says that e-cigarettes are proving to be more popular amongst younger smokers than traditional tobacco cigarettes with some 28% of those young adults having tried a PV at once in the last thirty days.

Hawaii has been known as a place with many smokers where it seems most adults smoke, despite recent legal and social censure. Young adults are finding that electronic cigarettes are more enjoyable and fit better into their lifestyles Therefore many are now enjoying the freedom to vape responsibly without the social censure of smoking a tobacco cigarette.

The majority of people in Hawaii feel that this is a positive step particularly in light of the fact that Hawaii has more smokers per capita than the mainland United States, on average. It is expected that with more people laying aside tobacco and instead using e-liquid this phenomena will make for a cleaner and fresher Hawaii with lowering health care costs.

Hope For Those Trying to Quit Tobacco

One of the most popular talking points of the vapouriser industry has just been proven to be true. A new study published in the medical journal Addiction has shown that a current smoker can quit tobacco with the help of a vapouriser.

Researchers from the University College London conducted this study, which was independently funded with research grants from the drug industry and the government. No money from the electronic cigarettes industry was used, in order to prevent any bias. Nor did any of the British participants use counselling, prescription medications or nicotine replacement therapy during the course of the study.

This study used surveys conducted between 2009 and 2014 of households with at least one smoker who had been trying to quit in the last year.. Most of the smokers had tried no outside help. One third used nicotine gums and patches. 8% used e-cigarettes. Of the three groups studied, those who used the electronic cigarettes were the most likely to have been able to stop smoking tobacco.

For years many current vapers have managed to become ex-tobacco smokers with the use of their electronic cigarettes. They are able to personally control just how much nicotine they ingest. In fact, they can if they wish, stop including nicotine in their e-juice entirely but continue to vape simply because they enjoy it. Most ex-smoker vapers are more than happy to tell their stories to others and it is good to see that someone is finally taking their stories seriously and researching this properly.

Of course, this is still an early study and of only a small group so more work will need to be done in order to fully investigate. But, it's still very promising. Quitting a tobacco habit is considered to be one of the hardest things a person can do. Most people fail, over and over again. This is unfortunate. Tobacco smokers are known to struggle with poor health outcomes, bad odours to stale smoke and both legal and social censures on their habit.

If vaping can help a person stop smoking then science should sit up and take it seriously.
