Do you mouth or lung vape?

As vaping devices and eliquids have developed over the years, so too perhaps have the ways we vape or inhale.

At Exhale, perhaps it was once all about the the freshness of breath and the wonderfully satisfying feeling of Exhaling clean vapour, but what I think is that vaping has changed the way we inhale too, and it is the inhale specifically I wanted to discuss.

Remember the cigalikes? They were/are designed to look and behave like a cigarette, even down to the little light on the end to look like a lit end.... They were designed to appeal to and to encourage a smoker to feel confident about and satisfied with as they made the change and began using an eCig. Of course, those of us who began with these and have since moved on (eagerly) as the designs of these things got better and better have become, not only more and more confident, but also more and more satisfied. I've lost count of the number of people I have spoken to who have told me 'point blank' that they prefer vaping to smoking.

Well, anyway... Cigalikes quickly evolved into bigger devices... At first because we wanted more power, longer life, bigger hits. As this happened not only did batteries grow and get adorned with many more features, so too have atomisation devices, how they are built and work...and also the shape and design of the mouthpieces (or as they are sometimes called drip tips).

Dripping juice as opposed to having a tank, is a whole different area of discussion and perhaps we can discuss this another day, but my point it that the shape and advancements in these things have I feel driven a lot of the changes, not only in what we vape with but also in how we vape, or more specifically how we inhale.

Most tobacco smokers would Mouth Inhale. That is they would draw inhaled smoke into the mouth first, and then into the lungs ( a few, never even into the lungs at all). Rarely would a straight tobacco smoker perform a direct Lung Inhale, that is by inhaling direct into the lungs.  But with changes in device shape and design, the width of the mouthpiece, and the air inlets that have been introduced inhalation has been changing.

In my last blog I talked about the 'Life Altering' Atlantis V.2 and the fact that it has taken a step further by not only having the adjustable airflow at coil level, but also the new air holes at mouthpiece level too, further cooling and introducing even more oxygen to the vape. With everything set wide open the vape with that is truly incredible. But, whilst providing an out of this world mouth inhaled vaping experience, the bigger more open drip tip style mouthpiece and its wide open air flow it simply begs to be Lung Inhaled.

Lung Inhaling in the vaping world is perhaps practiced most by "cloud chasers"... Those that build RDA's and use drip tips to feed liquid drop by drop onto organic cotton wicks that are nestled into self built and ever more artistic multiple coil set ups. These cloud chasers breathe in lung fulls of vape, and exhale long, vast, dense plumes of thick fluffy clouds that seem to hang in the air for ages.

But lung hitting isn't just for cloud chasers... And it isn't just for those who smoke non-straight tobacco or herbs either! With devices like the sub ohms such as the Kanger SubTank and the Aspire Atlantis v.1 or v.2,  big old lung hits are now there readily available for those of us who don't want to build coils to enjoy too.

Personally, it is still my habit to Mouth Inhale, though I do also enjoy and find myself unconsciously mixing it up and taking a Lung hits too. Maybe just to ring the changes and to experiment with taste and vape experience.

I wondered then if the changes and advances in 'off the shelf' vape equipment are altering the way others are vaping too?
