Are you BATTERY aware?

Many new users of electronic cigarettes start off with a kit that uses the eGo style of battery.

The most usual size in a standard kit is a 650mAh with an output voltage of 3.7v.

To most people, particularly those new to vaping these numbers mean nothing. All they want and need right now is to know that with liquid in the tank they can press the button, and they can vape.

It's natural for all of us that at the outset our focus is on the vape experience. Not all of us want to dabble into batteries that are super-charged and multi-functional and the standard numbers are just fine.

That is after all how it was originally designed. Now all you require is a regular stock of liquid and consumables a trusty and reliable battery or two.

Trust me. You will come to rely upon this little bit of kit almost over night.. I guess it's a little bit like knowing you have a few cigs in your pack (tobacco in your pouch) and a reliable lighter. There is a security of sorts knowing that you have all you need to satisfy that craving at a moment's notice. Your battery will be key to maintaining that security.

Remember just for a moment those times when your lighter failed...,you would attempt time and again to get that little spark and the resulting flame. But, try as you might nothing works, you'd glance around .... is anyone nearby smoking so that you can get a light...?

These 'all important' ecig batteries are built to serve you well. They're clever little so and so's too; created with some very thoughtful features, one of which a lot of people don't ever discover, but I think is perhaps one of the best functions and controls it has.

Did you know that by performing a very simple and straightforward process you can guard and preserve the stored power by locking/disabling your battery?

Think again for a moment back to the experience of the failed lighter ....what if you came to vape and your battery failed and it had lost its power? Perhaps something pressed against the power button as you were carrying it.... That could happen...

This device is gonna become your best friend.... You'll carry it with you all the time just like you used to do with your cigarettes and lighter. And, just like when a lighter fails to provide that vital flame, with no power in your battery you cant vape. It's very frustrating and annoying. And this is also very avoidable so now that you know about it, why not get into the habit of routinely using the lock function so that hiccups like that need never occur? Here's how:

To use the feature to lock or to unlock your battery:

  • Click the power button fully 3 times within 2 seconds.
  • The battery button light will blink rapidly a few times to let you know the command is input correctly.
  • When locked the button will now not function when pressed until it has been unlocked.
  • When unlocked, after the rapid blink confirmation has stopped, the power button will work normally
    • The same command locks and unlocks the battery.
    • Some batteries have been set to 5 clicks. If three clicks doesn't work for you, it is worth trying again with 5 clicks within 2 seconds!

So, what other smart features does this little powerhouse have?

The light on the power button may flash for a few different reasons and it is useful to understand why they happen.

You already know of the rapid blinking as discussed above for the lock/unlock command. Perhaps you've even tried it as you read this and have seen it work.

The likelihood it that you already know that it will flash/blink when its power is depleted to let you know that it requires re-charging. After it has blinked, it will switch itself off which it does this to protect itself from damage that could be caused by being over-discharged.

When connected to charge it will blink when re-charge begins, just lets you know the battery has been connected correctly.

In use it will flash to alert you and will not function if it has detected a short circuit. This specific flashing like the next one I will tell you about is sometimes misunderstood. It is easy to conclude there must be something wrong with the battery. This feature is indicating to you that there is a problem which most usually is caused by a short circuit in the clearomiser device  attached to it. If it happens to you, first try out the same clearomiser on a different battery.

Then finally there is the blinking that occurs during over-vaping or over-heating and this can be the most confusing one to get to grips with until you understand why this happens. With new users it will be caused by holding down the power button for too long and will activate if you press the power button for more than 10 seconds.

In this situation the button light flashes, then power will halt temporarily to protect itself and the device attached from damage that can be caused by over heating. The temporary power halt forces a short cool down period and then the battery continues to function normally.

If in a small space of time you over-vape again without allowing sufficient cooling time, the flashing will reoccur, halting power output again.

If you do this again and again the battery flash an alert and then will lock itself in order to stop you from using it. This lock down essentially forces a longer shutdown protecting the cells and coils of your device from being damaged. after the enforced cool down, it will then need to be unlocked/re-enabled.

All in all, then you can appreciate that this really is a well thought out battery. Its microchips engineered to self-monitor and to assure you get the best from it, with the longest and safest life possible.

In addition to those described and although not displaying any visible alerts your battery will in addition to preventing itself from being over-discharged, also protect itself from being over-charged, halting power intake as needed during the charging process.

Although it's very clever, it is really a good idea to know how to care for and charge your lithium ion battery. To help with this we've created some useful information available on our Help & Guides page.

  • We recommend learning about lithium battery care and safety
  • We advise that you carry out a quick & easy daily maintenance practice to keep your battery contacts and threads clean and free from liquid residues (which build up naturally during use).

Warnings & Safety Notes

Never leave an e-cig battery charging overnight.

Always remove from power as soon as charging is complete.

UseLiPo Guard Safety Charging Bag for extra security. Or better still, get the bag with the correct uSB/3Pin adaptor as a charging package and save £££'s

Never use leads or adaptors that come from other electronic equipment even if the connections look the same. These devices have different power ratings and using the incorrect charging and adaptors presents serious fire hazard.

Never charge near water or use/store your battery and equipment where there is high humidity or temperature extremes.

Never drop or try to dismantle a battery.

Never use a battery that has been submerged in water.
