The TPD - Act NOW - UK News.

Today May 20th is the day when new legislations under the European Tobacco Products Directive (TPD) come into force across the UK.

Most of the TPD deals with actual tobacco products as its name implies it should. However, despite some very hard fought battles some of which are still taking place, the TPD has cast its net more widely that cigarettes and tobacco and it has also encompassed within its large nets your vaping products too.

The whole of the vaping industry is affected by the TPD, and as these affects filter down there is a domino effect and as those dominos topple over that effect comes down the line and it effects you.

The changes that will most affect you are:

  • Bottles of eliquid will be limited in volume to no more than10ml.
  • Nicotine content for sale in the UK will be limited to no more that 20mg/ml
  • Tank size/capacity will be limited to no larger than 2ml

For a while yet you'll still be able to source and buy liquids and tanks that break these new rules. This is because vape stores and suppliers who already have stocks of these ‘rule breaking’ products in their warehouses are going to be allowed (for a limited length of time) to continue to them however, as these are sold and used up when making new their stock orders suppliers like Exhale will have to fully comply with the TPD

The TPD is coming into force today. And yet this may be the first time you have even heard of it.

For months now, there have been battles against its restrictions. They are still being fought.

It is more important now than ever that you spare time and give thought to these battles.

As your trusted supplier of vaping products, we implore you to lend your voice and join forces with us and with every other vaping in the UK to be heard.

In The House of Lords last week the TPD restrictions on vaping once again came under heavy fire. Following on from what was a very heated debate Lord Callanan has put down before The House a new and very very important motion - if it is passed it will STOP the implementation of the TPD in the UK.

The critical thing we want to get across here is that:

  • even if you had never heard of the TPD and the restrictions it imposes on you as a vaper that it is not too late for you to join in the fight.
  • It is not too late to add your voice to those who are are shouting out in protest.
  • It takes very little effort and we ask you please to help.

The more pressure we apply RIGHT NOW then the greater the likelihood that there will be of a positive response to Lord Callanan’s motion; The greater the chance will be for people in the UK to remain free and have this opportunity to escape from the prison that is smoking.

WHO IS AGAINST THE TPD?

  • The Lords are strongly against the TPD. They know that there are severe problems wth its rules on vaping.
  • Government officials recognise this too and have already acknowledged that the TPD rules could increase smoking.
  • The health minister has already told the Lords that he “hoped enforcement (of the TPD) would be lax”.
  • The shadow minister has said he “could not understand why e-cigarettes were included in the TPD” and described opposition to vaping as “bonkers”;
  • In fact as long as two years ago his boss, Jeremy Corbyn signed a parliamentary motion against the TPD rules on vaping.

Lord Callanan

He's an experienced senior politician who has already been successful in leading the campaign in which Members of the European Parliament (MEP’s) which successfully blocked the clause in the TPD in which vaping products would have come under the umbrella of compulsory medicinal regulations; a clause that would have had it gone ahead wiped out vaping completely.

The motion he has presented before The House asks that the TPD regulations 2016 be annulled on the grounds that:

“its restrictions on product choice and advertising of vaping devices were devised

before evidence had accumulated that vaping was enabling many people to quit

smoking, and run counter to advice from the Royal College of Physicians to promote

vaping and that they are so severe that they could force vapers back to smoking and create

a black market with harmful products (SI 2015/507).”

Unless he is forced by pressure from Downing Street to withdraw this motion there will be a debate and a vote. Furthermoreunder parliamentary rules, if the Lords' agree to this motion, then it will not go back toThe Commons and the statutory instrument that is implementing the TPD in the UK will fall.

Vaper Power

Collective efforts have got us to where we are right now.

Back in 2013 during one of the earliest battles against the proposals of the TPD the UK’s 1.3 million vapers helped swing the day in the European Parliament.

Now in 2016 there are 2.8 million of us. We can do this again. Our voices must be used to influence politicians (who after all want our backing and our votes).

NOW IS THE TIME.

It has never been more important. We must make as much noise as we possibly can.

Your voice can be amongst those who will be heard demonstrating to our leaders that vast numbers of us want them to use the opportunity presented by Lord Callanan’s motion to rethink the specific problems that we their vaping voters have with TPD.

We can be an un-stoppable force for change - here's what you can do right now:

If we do not take this opportunity we might literally have to wait until around 2026 for the next Tobacco Products Directive to be implemented to even have a chance of creating improvement. Do you want to wait until then?
