Proof! E-cigs help to save lives

We had one of those ‘told you so’ moments recently. Research from University College London (UCL) makes a bold claim. It states thousands, not hundreds of lives could be saved by switching from cigarette smoking to vaping instead.

The figures speak for themselves.

It’s estimated around nine million people still smoke in the UK. If they switched to e-cigs instead around 54,000 lives could be saved each year. Moreover, 6,000 premature deaths could be avoided if smokers stubbed out cigs and tried nicotine vapour inhalers instead.

These figures aren’t made up either. They’re bona-fide figures delivered straight from experts at UCL. In an editorial delivered by Professor Robert West and Dr Jamie Brown from UCL’s department of Epidemiology and Public Health, it was acknowledged small toxins were found in the vapour of e-cigs but they were well below 1/20th of those found in cigarette smoke.

This might annoy the anti-vaping lobbyists but the simple fact is e-cigarettes contain nothing like the toxins you find in cigarette smoke.

Smokers crave a nicotine hit and it’s the toxins in tobacco that cause health concerns. E-cigs provide the ‘hit’ of nicotine with none of the associated side-effects of smoking, surely that’s a major reason to quit smoking and start vaping instead?

The experts at UCL certainly think so. Professor Peter Hajek from the Tobacco Dependence Research Unit at Queen Mary University of London does too. He makes a good point claiming recent actions to restrict the sale and promotion of e-cigs is detrimental to public health.

By restricting them to avoid ‘supposed’ risks you are overlooking the significant benefits. And when you factor the research from UCL into the equation it clearly shows that e-cigs help to save lives.

People have the right to decide. One thing we know at Exhale is anti-vaping lobbyists are simply scaremongering without looking at the facts.

Ask the experts at UCL. See what they have to say on the subject!
