Electronic Cigarettes in the News 2 January 2015

Happy New Year! In the coming year, may the sun shine on your face, the wind stay at your back and the road rise to meet your every step.

We've successfully made it through another year and, despite the best efforts of those who would really rather we dried up and blew away, it seems, the Electronic Cigarette Industry is, not only still alive, but growing by leaps and bounds.

As you'll see, from this post-holiday news round-up, the war is not over, and there are battles still to be fought. Like dear Winston said, "The truth is incontrovertible. Malice may attack it. Ignorance may deride it. But in the end, there it is."

In the end, by faith, we will prevail.

So without further ado, here's the current news.. that's in the news..... that may be news to you!

From Stateside

We begin this week’s roundup with two stories from the United States. One, from the east coast and one from the west,

Our first story isn’t as remarkable in its content, as in the fact of where it was published. The story "Race to Deliver Nicotine’s Punch, With Less Risk" appeared in, of all places The New York Times. This marks the first time that the "Old Grey Lady" herself has seen fit to even broach the subject of vaping and electronic cigarettes.

Of course it would've been too much to have asked for smaller, less well-heeled companies to have received any ink from her ladyship.  The article expounded on the virtues of big tobaccos’, (her advertisers), efforts to create safer alternatives to their current products. Still, it's progress.

Our second story comes from the state of Washington, where Governor Jay Inslee has put forth a Bill calling for a 95% tax to be levied on Electronic Cigarettes and Eliquids. He asserts that this is justified because electronic cigarettes, and other vaping supplies, now have an unfair pricing advantage over traditional tobacco products!!!

It would seem that Governor Inslee is more concerned with his states dwindling Tobacco Tax income than with the health of his constituency.... or could this be a case of what you can’t outlaw, you tax into oblivion?

British Economic Turns

Our last story this week comes from right here at home. It isn’t exactly great news for the country as a whole, but for those of us in the Electronic Cigarette Industry it helps explain why we're getting/enjoying so much official attention recently.

While Britain’s supermarkets had the predicted dismal 2014, it would seem that there was one bright spot; the sales of electronic cigarettes.

It looks as if, while the sale of traditional staples went up in smoke, vaping supplies simply flew off of the shelves. Figures report that the overall sales of vaping supplies rose at an astounding rate of just over 49.5%. This makes it the market sales-gain champion of the grocery industry.

So, there you have it ladies and gents. Now that the welcoming in of 2015 firework smoke has cleared, you can clearly see how much ground there's still to cover, but, more importantly, how much we've already gained.
