Debbie's Journey of Vaping - My "Pretend Cigarette Has Arrived!!! - Part 2.

Hi

Welcome back. Please pull up a chair and get comfy as Debbie takes us further into her world as she discovers Vaping!

25th March 2012

“IT’S HERE” Oh my golly godfathers, what do I do?…. I'm beside myself as I unwrap my package. This is all becoming a little too real and really quite scary. I know, I will phone my daughter. After all, she was one of the people who had encouraged me to get involved in all this new-fangled electronic vaping business. Right now I need some support and quickly grab my phone and call her.

You know, every winter, I would be nursing a bad cough, sometimes bronchitis, sometimes pleurisy but always, always it would end up with me at the doctors collecting antibiotics to help with the wheezing and tight chest. There I’d be popping pills with one hand whilst taking a drag with the other…and there she was my lovely daughter admonishing me.... “Mother! What are you doing? .....Why don’t you just stop smoking?” Well, if I’d had a pound for every time I heard that……..all the while sat in my house, smoking and drinking tea!!! Go figure!

The phone begins to ring and is quickly answered, before she can greet me I begin...“It’s here, it's here” I said, quite breathless with a feeling akin to panic. “Have you had a go?” she asks me. “Well no" I tell her "I'm saving it 'till tomorrow”.

Is that another excuse or am I really doing this?

I was still fuming at the government for making me stop smoking but I was determined they would not get another penny out of me and so I connected the cartridge to the battery and very tentatively took my first drag on my very own electronic cigarette.

D-Day!!! 26th March 2012

The following day, I used it all day at work, whilst sat at my desk. I remember it very clearly. It was chucking it down outside and someone came in and announced that they were nipping outside for a smoke and asked to borrow my brolly!!

Oh the irony!

I went home from work that night and both my daughter and I were having our hair cut at home. She asked me how I had gone on “It’s ok...  but it’s not as good as the real thing” I told her.

There were 3 real cigarettes in a packet on the breakfast bar and I said “I think I will just have one of these, no point wasting them is there?”. So ignoring my daughters expression as I did so, I proceeded to light up.

I still don’t know what happened. I thought someone had tampered with it. It tasted so strong and the menthol was so weak. I didn’t like it so I passed that one to my daughter and lit another. It was the same, I stubbed it out and reached for my electric one as I took my turn in the chair for my hair cut.

27th March 2012

My favourite time of the day had arrived and I went straight for the last of the cigarettes in the pack. I’d saved it for this very moment. I put the kettle on. Oh boy….I wanted to savour this, after all it was going to be my last cigarette. Ever.

I took it from the pack. I looked at it fondly as I prepared for my final farewell to smoking. I lit up, aaahhhhhh, lovely. Then I took another drag and it hit me. That awful taste was there again. NOOOO!!!! This cant be happening. What’s wrong with me??

I realised then that just from not smoking tobacco all day yesterday, I could really taste how strong my favourite ciggies were. It was bizarre. I’d smoked the same cigarettes for 20 years so how could I now not like them?

I personally believe that as I was addicted to the nicotine and the menthol and therefore had failed to taste all of the bad things that are mixed in with it. If you had told me that after only one day of not smoking tobacco, I would be able to taste the difference I would have thought you were crazy. Not in just one day surely? But realisation was dawning on me… I thought to myself, I can actually do this, I really can.

That's quite incredible Debbie that you could notice such a huge difference so quickly. When I read this it had quite an impact on me and I wondered if others of you have also tried one of your usual cigarettes after vaping for a day and noticed such a strong change in the taste???

Join Debbie again next time as she tells us about the first weeks of using her 'pretend cigarette' and the reactions of her family and friends.
