7 Electronic Cigarette Myths Debunked

Electronic Cigarette Myths Debunked

It may or may not, come as a surprise to many that, as often as you see electronic cigarettes in the news, there is still a great deal of myth and misinformation being expounded on, as if it were fact. It just goes to prove that Joseph Goebbels famous quote “If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe It.” is as true today, as it was in the 1930s.

At Exhale Electronic Cigarettes we prefer to believe that “The truth shall set you free.” That is why we work so hard to ferret out the latest electronic cigarette news, day after day, week after week.

We believe that educated and informed consumers will not only make smart choices but that they will help spread the gospel, of the e-cig.

Electronic Cigarette Myths Dispelled

With this in mind, here is a short list of the most common electronic cigarette myths, and the truths that we hope will dispel them forever.

Myth 1. Electronic Cigarettes are just as dangerous as tobacco, because they also contain nicotine.

While nicotine is highly addictive, it has actually been found to have minimum effects on overall health. It is the tar and 4000+ other chemicals including arsenic and ammonia that are ingested, from tobacco smoke, which makes it and smoking itself so harmful.

E-cigarettes also offer the advantage of allowing you to control your nicotine intake, by offering e-liquids with varying amounts of nicotine, or if you prefer,  none at all. And with vaping, no tar, no arsenic, no ammonia and none of those other 4000 plus harmful chemicals.

Myth 2. No one really knows what they are inhaling from an electronic cigarette.

As long as you buy your vaping supplies from reputable dealers, you will know exactly what you are getting. Supplies from reputable manufacturers and suppliers have the contents listed on the e-juice bottles, and besides some minor flavouring agents, e-liquids are made from only 5 chemicals; all of which have been found to be completely safe for human consumption and have been used safely for many, many years in both the food and pharmaceutical industries.

Myth 3. Electronic Cigarettes can explode.

There has never been a documented case of an electronic cigarette exploding, when is was being used according to manufacturers’ guidelines.

However, just as with any other electrical device, there are those who cannot resist the urge to tinker and/or disregard safety warnings. Evidence of this can be found in cases of mobile phones, rechargeable lanterns, and even mobile music devices that have been mishandled. Please take time to read our guides on use and use the correct adapters. We can't stress how important it is.

Myth 4. Electronic Cigarettes are expensive.

This is, perhaps, the most confusing, of all the myths surrounding electronic cigarettes. Yes, there is a higher initial investment involved, versus continuing to pay out week after week on your traditional tobacco. However, there are many reasonably priced models on the market, and, when you calculate in the savings you derive when buying e-liquid rather than another and then another pack of cigs, you are actually money ahead, very quickly.

Myth 5. Second hand vapour is the same as second hand smoke.

The exhaled vapour from an electronic cigarette is exactly that, vapour. The lungs of the person vaping remove the nicotine from the inhaled vapour and what is exhaled is basically just plain old H2O, water.

Electronic cigarettes also offer the advantage of not having any output when they are not being inhaled. Regular cigarettes constantly burn emitting their pollution, even when they are just being held or laid in an ashtray.

Myth 6. E-liquids are made with antifreeze.

This myth originates from the fact that, e-juice contains Propylene Glycol. A chemical compound, which is also found, along with a boatload of other chemicals, in antifreeze, What makes this claim so laughable is that, you will also find Propylene Glycol in sweets, cosmetics, soft drinks and many medications.

Myth 7. Electronic Cigarettes will soon be outlawed.

As much as some in the pharmaceutical and tobacco industries wish this were true, it is not very likely to happen. The only place that has even attempted to outlaw electronic cigarettes has been India, and even they are beginningto realise that it was a foolish idea.

The fact is, there is a massive amount of research being performed, both by e-cig supporters and their detractors; with we're pleased to say the electronic cigarette industry coming out on top, so far.

What we are likely to see happen, and this is supported by those on both sides, is regulations being put in place, that will place limits on the marketing, advertising, and sale of electronic cigarette components to people under the age of 18. At Exhale we've never sold to anyone under 18. Their payment card would simply be declined.

There you have it folks, the most common myths that we hear about electronic cigarettes, and the truth about them.

Next time you hear someone spreading this tripe you will be prepared to set the record straight.

Until next time, here’s wishing you a smooth draw.
