E-Juice Steeping 101

E-Juice Steeping 101

In an earlier post, I talked about the advantages of stepping or ageing your e-liquid before using it. At the end of that article, I said there would be a follow-up piece, to start teaching you more about how to steep e-juice. As always, we mean what we say so here is your first lesson in E-Juice Steeping 101.

There are three basic means that people use to steep, cure or age (they all mean the same thing) their e-liquid to improve its taste. These three methods are:

  • Time
  • Heat
  • Air

Time steeping Your E-juice

Of the three this is, in my opinion, the best choice. It is simple, easy and requires nothing more than patience and self-control.

  1. Buy or order your e-juice at least a month ahead of the time that you will need it.
  2. Store it in a cool, dry, preferably dark place.
  3. Test it every three to four days until you think the taste is perfect.
  4. Note how long it took to cure so he next batch you'll have a guide.
  5. ENJOY!

Heat Curing E-Liquid

Heat curing or steeping is the method you will hear and see the most about and to be honest, my least favourite of all possible methods. It involves heating your e-juice, normally with either a hot water bath or with a bowl of rice, in order to cause it to age quickly.

These methods do work, with one caveat, do not overheat your juice, or it will be crap and under no circumstances should you ever subject you e-liquid to a microwave oven.

Air Steeping

This method normally involves agitating your e-liquid every few minutes, and then letting it rest. To my mind, this is more of a speed breathing method, than a curing method, but it does have the desired effect.

Regardless of the method you choose, don't be shocked when your e-liquid starts turning brown. This just the natural oxidation process that occurs as the nicotine mixes and blends with the other components of your e-juice.

Happy Vaping!
